My research interests lie in primarily in the area of innate immune regulation and inflammation. Our goal is to understand novel regulatory mechanisms of inflammatory responses and identify possible therapeutic targets for the treatment of inflammation-associated intractable diseases. To reveal novel regulatory mechanisms of inflammation, we have been focusing on endosome/lysosome-dependent inflammatory signals since these vesicular compartments are known to be an important signaling platform for multiple innate immune sensors and cytokine/chemokine receptors. In particular, we are investigating cross-talk between TLRs and mTORC1 in innate immune cells including dendritic cells, macrophages, and neutrophils. We have revealed a novel mechanism involved in the pathogenesis of SLE by focusing on endolysosome-resident amino acid transporter, SLC15A4, in which TLRs-SLC15A4-mTORC1 signaling axis plays a critical role for producing type I interferon and pathogenic antibodies.
