I have been studying host-pathogen interactions primarily in the context of malaria disease caused by Plasmodium parasites. My group has focused on the understanding of the innate and adaptive immune responses to Plasmodium parasites, their cause of disease pathology at the organ and tissue level. Our aim is to discover novel vaccine antigens and adjuvants against malaria. During my ~20 years of research period, I’ve contributed to scientific field with several important findings, such as innate immune system recognition of Plasmodium parasites. I have produced more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles/ book chapters. In 2015, I was promoted to a rare promotion for foreign academic female in Japan, as full Professor position at Osaka University for my contribution to the field of immunology. In 2017, I was awarded Woman Immunologist Award by Japanese Society of Immunology. Since 2019, I am continuing my immunology of malaria research at the University of Tokyo.
